WE MADE IT!

 Hey, y’all!

Our lovely traveling troupe has officially arrived in the beautiful city of London. (As Julia beautifully said- "Guys, I think we may be in the UK. There's so many people with British accents).

Yesterday was a long day, but now we’ve all survived our jet lag (and a wonderful welcome dinner at the pub The Lamb), and today we officially started the “studying” part of study abroad. First, we hit the ground running with a 6 hour workshop with Will Barlow that focused on process drama and dramatic conventions. In that time, we managed to review thirty dramatic strategies, participate in the beginnings of a process drama, focus on real issues that might affect our current and future students, and even watch two of our peers partake in a “moo-off” (which is, somehow, exactly what it sounds like). We were exhausted, but everyone agreed that we were extremely grateful for the practical skills we got from Will. Peek below to see some videos of a portion of the day that somehow involved interpretive dance, rapping, haiku poetry, and human statues. It probably won't clarify anything, but is a great example of a group of theatre kids finally getting to be our weird theatre selves without a screen between us, something that I think we all very much appreciate.

After a quick break (shout out to those of us who ran back  to the dorms and successfully managed to change in 10 minutes), we headed to the National Theatre to see a production of Jack Absolute Flies Again. Many of us had absolutely no idea what the play was going to be about, but I can confidently say that when I heard that the plot revolved around a World War II pilot I did not expect a disco ball-infused dance scene. Luckily, I was wrong. My favorite part was walking out at intermission (sorry- INTERVAL) and talking to other students about how much joy theatre brings us and how happy we are to be here.

I think that I speak for everyone when I say that we're so happy to be here together learning about, practicing, and experiencing the thing that we love most, and we can't wait to see what tomorrow brings next!

XOXO,

Taylor (A London Lady)

PS- RIP Jack
