London News Headlines today: Heathrow Airport Flight Cancellations!
Airports and airlines are not able to come back from reduced pandemic staff in time for the summer travel boom. ✈️
MY DAY… On my walk to the NYU workshop today, I stopped at the Italian caffe Tropea inside the Russell Square Gardens park for a Full English breakfast; eggs sunny side up, sausage, bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes, baked beans, (yes, breakfast includes beans, like pork & beans, without the pork.) Delicious food, cute restaurant, with beautiful calming scenery! (Nice English waiter who tells me he’s been to New York and New Jersey.)
I then headed off to our NYU workshop, passing school kids in uniform heading into the British Museum (yes, the British Museum is in walking distance between the NYU apartments and NYU School Academic Center. Beautiful Bloomsbury neighborhood. Central London.
Today, we had the honor and pleasure to learn from and workshop with Dr. Cecily O’Neill; author, artistic director, dramaturg, and international authority on PROCESS DRAMA and the Arts in Education! Process Drama is a method of teaching and learning where both the student and teacher are working together in and out of role, through unscripted, dramatic improvisation. Dr. Cecily O’Neill demonstrated the “Teacher-in-Role” process drama technique by playing the Talk Show host interviewing us (NYU) as the characters of Shakespeare's King Lear. (By the way, we just saw Shakespeare’s King Lear at The Globe a few days ago with a multicultural cast!)
For LUNCH today - I skedaddled down the street and around the corner to the famous OXFORD STREET. I can’t believe our NYU-LONDON School Center is within walking distance to London’s famous Oxford Street! Oxford Street is Famous in Europe for Shopping and Fashion with over 300 shops and a variety of international designers. Yoo-hoo! 🤩
Afterwards, I stopped by the flat (apartment) for a cup of tea (notice the pinky finger in the air.) 🫖
The evening consisted of another London theatrical production experience; ‘The Stopping Place’ at the beautiful Stratford Old Town Hall. ‘The Stopping Place’ was an all female production featuring music and artists of the Roma tradition staging the hidden history of the holocaust through the relationship between two sisters featuring a multicultural chorus of young students from East London’s Newham Schools. 👏 We stayed after for an informative Q&A Panel Discussion/mixer about the production, the Romani community and the holocaust.
Now - off to the Tube (train in London) - some of us going home to rest for another exciting eventful day (me) and some…to the pub (British bar).
Cheers,
KIMBERLEE 🎭
PS These beautiful well-crafted London cobblestoned streets are doing a number on my feet! 😝
PPS I’m wearing my bright colorful shirt/dress from the new Tabitha Brown Collection. Tabitha Brown is an African American actress based in Los Angeles, California, and now too, a Social Media darling/business woman spreading Good Vibes and positivity. “Hello there!” 🤗
